Is This The Soultion To The Fansub Dilemma?
Has someone in Japan finally woke up, or is this just more talk with no action? Masakazu Kubo, the executive producer of the Tokyo Anime Center, has submitted a proposal to the Japanese government’s Media Content Business and Japanese Brands Task Force mentioning how fansubbers should be dealt with.
About 10 fans (whose translation abilities are high compared to professionals!) (*3) are said to put animated videos with foreign-language subtitles on YouTube, BitTorrent, and other file-sharing sites. If our country is to formally deal with YouTube and other services, it will be necessary to have some sort of approach to dealing with these individuals. Personally, I hope to resolve this by officially making use of their abilities.
This idea has been thrown around for awhile now and it seemed like a far off fantasy for Japanese and American companies to step in and actually work with fansubbers and use their skills. I don’t know how many fansubbers would be willing to work with the companies though, as most fansubbers are stuck up idiots who would see working with the companies as “selling out”. Do you think this is the answer to the fansub dilemma or is this just more talk from Japan that won’t go anywhere?

Hmm, keep the fansubbers occupied by making them work… who knows. It’s probably just more talk. Who knows. Never say never.
quartz, I’m not saying it will never happen. I’m just saying I don’t think it will happen at this point with the mindset of most fansubbers these days. Thanks for taking the time to comment.
The only solution ends up in the extinction of humanity on the planet.
If people get paid they will think about it. In Japan no body will service for free and they know that, so if they “use their [fansubbers'] abilities officially, they will paid. Whether they’ll paid enough for fansubbers to care and help is another issue.
Is this the solution to the fansub dilemma? It’s plausable. Although I highly doubt the possibility of this “dilemma” ever being solved (let’s face it, you can never possible stop all fansubbers from doing what they do), I believe that the possibility of utilizing the abilities of fansubbers rather than mindlessly banning them is a great idea. As for those “stuck up” fansubbers who believe that the idea of working for these companies equals to being a selling out are complete total idiots. THEY are the TRUE sell outs for not wanting to work for a company that will not only pay them for what they do but also give them a chance to help enhance the anime franchise by letting the anime viewers know that there are anime distributors with real-deal anime fans just like them subbing their anime! Anime subbed for fans by fans! AND if hired, they might have the chance to watch a ground-breaking anime series first before anyone! Anyways, I’d rather watch an anime with just one set of correct subbers rather than trying to pick and choose among the large sea of fansubbers: the good, the bad, the ridiculously bad, etc.
