I can see in the third picture some anime series that don't actually appear when I go on crunchyroll and look at what anime series there are. Also when I go on the website there are many anime series that aren't in the app which is annoying because many of them are good. Anyone know why that happens?

Most annoying,... that's a chart I loved! But for me, as a person who has watched all Bleach episodes (don't ask - I just have too many friends in this anime) I have to say that Orihime is one hell of a friend to have: Kurosaki-kun! Kurosaki-kun! Kurosaki-kun!

Just watch the episode where Ulquiorra and Yammy first enter the human world and you'll understand what I mean. Moreover, it's not like this in one episode, it's everywhere.

Also, a more positive list; http://shinigamilist.com/2011/09/26/top-5-chinese-characters-in-anime/

I've been trying to follow the show as well. I"m about 8 episodes in and so far it seems something akin to the movie Fight Club. I would say that about six personalities so far are existing in one body. It's hard to understand they are different personalities sharing one body at first because their hair and eye colors are different. However, the faces are the same. Because these faces are pretty typical manga faces, it's hard to catch that at first.

I’ve been trying to follow the show as well. I”m about 8 episodes in and so far it seems something akin to the movie Fight Club. I would say that about six personalities so far are existing in one body. It’s hard to understand they are different personalities sharing one body at first because their hair and eye colors are different. However, the faces are the same. Because these faces are pretty typical manga faces, it’s hard to catch that at first.

I am not a fan of Hinagiku, but for many reasons. One would be the fact that although she has this HUGE crush on Hayate and wants to confess her feelings to him, she's too scared to. Most of the time when it shows Hinagiku in both the manga and anime it's about her in love with Hayate, yet she doesn't make a move to show that she likes him, which makes her an annoying character (in my perspective).

Personally, Ayumu would be my favourite in the anime and manga. Part of the reason is her humour and she is the opposite of Hinagiku when it comes to confessing love. Even though Hayate shows no sign that he likes Ayumu in front of her, at least she does not give up.

I agree with what Pyrobyte says about Hinagiku. Hinagiku told Hayate in episode 4 in the first season that if he doesn't try and get what he wants once in awhile that he would miss his chance at happiness. She should take her own advice. Although, I like Hinagiku a lot more then Nagi.

I like Hina but I kinda lost respect for her when she finally admitted to Ayumu that she has feelings for Hayate but doesn't have the courage to let Hayate know how she feels. I just feel that Hina does have the courage to tell Hayate how she feels but she is waiting for Hayate to tell her that he likes her, which I don't think it's gonna happen since Hayate is such a clueless air head when it comes to those type of things. Oh Hina, what are we going to do with you.

Ouch! That's one heck of an editing job, Benu.

We do deliberately play "Good Cop - Bad Cop"; My co-host Alex is actually referring to titles such as Dance in the Vampire Bund, of which the only episode I saw featured an amazingly animated, and amazingly creepy, scene created solely to appeal to pedophiles.

Titles like Hanamaru Kindergarten, and K-On, whilst admittedly not to my tastes, seem like harmless enough titles.

@Shay Guy: Well when I was writing this post I thought of the most annoying characters that were also the most memorable to me as well. These characters were the ones that really came to mind as annoying me the most. Sure there are annoying characters in older anime, but when it came to what characters really left a mark on me for being annoying these were it. I haven't really come across a male character in anime yet that has annoyed me as much as the 5 anime girls I listed have.

Also to answer you about Makoto, I just thought the whole story about her being a fox and what not was just stupid. I think it was more that it broke my suspension of disbelief more then anything else.

Thanks for commenting!

Makoto? ESPECIALLY the end of her arc? Really?

Also... 2006, 2007, 2006, 2004, 2007. Coming up on five decades of anime (Astro Boy was in '63) and the most annoying characters OF ALL TIME are really concentrated in the most recent 15% of those years? And all the same gender?

Care to explain these phenomena?

Your #4 & 5 pics stab me deeply in the heart. OK not that much, but I enjoyed those characters. My annoying characters are more mecha and shounen related. But usually they have a habit of ******* things up for others or being doormats, so I can definitely understand.

Zeta Gundam - Katz Kobayashi
Bleach - Orihime
Code Geass - Spinzaku
Naruto - Sakura

I'm going to leave this here ...

The entire cast of Code Geass
The entire cast of Shuffle!
Inuyasha and Kagome from ...Inuyasha
Anybody from Sengoku Basara....

Generally, most shows which I dislike I find all of their characters extremley grating. I can't really think of anybody in specific.

I do kind of agree that Mikuru is annoying though. The rest, I don't care about so much. Never seen moon phase or combat butler.

I like dubs. Seriously, I do. I watch Anime for good art and an interesting story. Hearing it in English doesn't kill it for me. I find subtitles to be distracting and following them hurts my eyes.

I also believe watching a show dubbed in English is more akin to experiencing Anime the way the original creator intended. First off, your eyes are focused on what's on the screen, not what's on the bottom. Second, humor and jokes translate better for me when it's changed into something that I can relate to more culturally. Case-In-Point: Crayon Shin-Chan.

I watch Japanese dubs too (usually fansubbed), but if I can watch a show with high quality English VO talent, I'll tend to watch it that way. This goes especially with shows that have settings that aren't necessarily Japan, or if the original Japanese dub features way too much Engrish for me to enjoy it. (Cough cough BECK cough cough)

I think it's going to be your average everyday harem anime. An all girls school gone coed? very clever /sarcasm.

Despite my distaste for repeated encarnations of Love Hina, Negima, and Hanaukyo Maids Tai, I have a glimmer of hope that this show will prove to be a bit entertaining since the director and producers had their hands on Princess Lover; which was quite the enjoyable anime for me.

I don't think experience as a director and producer is much of a necessity in this field; if you're a huge fan of anime you've got all the experience you need to create a half decent harem anime; which will be mediocre at best. Well, I wish them the best of luck!

-This message is brought to you from my TMobile G1 while boredly lottering my job's break lounge. So please forgive any spotted typos.

Eeper had a lot to say. My responses to him are...

1. It's easy to look back at the past and say "things were a lot better back then." The term for that (to borrow from TVTropes) is nostalgia filter. People tend to remember the good material, and forgot all the terrible and embarrassing stuff. Especially if they were young at the time.

Sure, there were a lot of great shows and movies in the 1980s -- Gunbuster, Laputa, Ranma, and so on. But for every good show, there's at least ten awful ones (that's what we call Sturgeon's Law). Anyone sat through Dog Soldier lately? How about Odin: Photon Space Sailer Starlight? And in the 80s, there were very-not-safe-for-work series such as Cream Lemon and Overfiend, which embarrassed many anime/manga fans.

Here's an analogy -- I'm a video game fanboy, and as such, I'm quite aware that some of my fellow fans are scared about casual fans entering fandom, and companies' attempts to market products to them. They seem worried that the games they like are not given all the attention, and they seem angry that the definition of video games is expanding. I don't have many nice things to say to those fans. It's a good idea to accept that video games can be more than serious 3D action games. And it's a good idea to accept that "non-hardcore" fans can like video games.

2. I can assure you that some of the entertainment which I think is clean, other people will consider shocking, or completely inappropriate. The opposite is also true -- things which are inoffensive in Poland or Brazil may be deeply insulting in my country, or maybe even illegal. This is called values dissonance (again, another term I borrowed from TVTropes). And over time, values change. So let's be frank... just about any form of entertainment can be offensive.

Also, international adaptations happen, and they're usually different from the original. They're rarely not-safe-for-work... but they but don't always succeed. While there is no moe version of Rugrats, there was an anime TV series take on Powerpuff Girls, and a Lilo and Stitch spinoff ("Stitch! Itazura Alien no Daibouken"). And when I was at Anime Weekend Atlanta 2009, I learned about the history of Japanese adaptations of western classics (Anna of Green Gables, Daddy Longlegs, and many more).

Finally, western adaptations of Japanese series are just as different, and not necessarily better or worse. Few people liked the live action movies of Guyver and Fist of the North Star from the mid 90s. Not many people praised the recent western movie adaptations of Dragonball and Astro Boy.

3. Finally, I'd recommend that Eeper relax a bit, and then listen to different podcasts. I recommend Animucast -- it's meant to be non-pretentious, and in the few times when it's serious, their opinions are varied.

That voice mail was too long! The rest of the show was good though and I totally agree with the points Dancing Queen and Benu made about moe. I for one don't think moe is harming anime at all and the people who think so are idiots! All the moe haters just need to be quiet and stop watching a show if they don't like it!

Anime will not die,but it is changing to Internet Based form, where it will be downloadable either legally (pay a fee to view) or Ilegally. The days of Anime DVD's are winding down execpt in mrakets where sales can still be supported.

Japanimation is dead. Kids today don't want to watch it. They want to look "emo" and be vampires. Also, why have stores totally cut Japanimation to a small shelf in the middle of the store? Because it doesn't sell. It was a trend, like disco music and leisure suits. I've been watching since 1983, when Honey Honey and Kimba were syndicated to Christian TV stations for Sunday mornings. I watched Japanimation in Korean as well from the early '80s to mid '90s. Piracy isn't hurting jack, legally watching isn't hurting jack. Every single show, like Final Fantasy's phony sales numbers, are based on teens teens and teens. Check out animesucks.com for why Japanimation has died.

@omo:
I'm not quite sure I understand what you are trying to tell me? If you think they are poorly worded what are your suggestions on how I could word things better? Also what is convoluted about the questions in survey 2? I'm not sure how I should have worded things in the first place because this is more of an experiment then anything else. I'm not sure I could have worded things any better because I really didn't know what sort of questions to ask in the first place. Also you don't even understand the reason for the questions which I am going to discuss in the article I plan to write based around the results for the surveys.

I do appreciate your input but until I write the article you won't have a full understanding of just what I am trying to write about. Maybe when you have read the article I am going to write you will have a better understanding of what kind of responses I was trying to get from people. Maybe I did poorly word things and do have some convoluted questions. But I don't really know what I did wrong at this point and you don't have the full picture of what I am trying to do as of yet.

I have never done anything like this before so I don't know what kind of standards I'm supposed to follow if there are any. This is all an experiment and something new for me. I am sorry if you feel that the questions are poorly worded and convoluted but I don't know any other way to try and express what I am trying to express.

I don't have a masters degree in English or conducting research, I am just trying to do what I can with my site here.

I’m not quite sure I understand what you are trying to tell me? If you think they are poorly worded what are your suggestions on how I could word things better? Also what is convoluted about the questions in survey 2? I’m not sure how I should have worded things in the first place because this is more of an experiment then anything else. I’m not sure I could have worded things any better because I really didn’t know what sort of questions to ask in the first place. Also you don’t even understand the reason for the questions which I am going to discuss in the article I plan to write based around the results for the surveys.

I do appreciate your input but until I write the article you won’t have a full understanding of just what I am trying to write about. Maybe when you have read the article I am going to write you will have a better understanding of what kind of responses I was trying to get from people. Maybe I did poorly word things and do have some convoluted questions. But I don’t really know what I did wrong at this point and you don’t have the full picture of what I am trying to do as of yet.

Some of your questions and answers are poorly worded. Just a head's up. Please make sure your answer selections clearly answers the question asked, and the question is not convoluted (like half of the questions in survey 2)

you take this so seriously XD
It's true, when I hear someone say "I'm an otaku!" with so much pride it's kind of annoying, because Otaku DOES mean a total freak in Japan, and is an offensive thing to say to someone there, too... so taking pride in that seems weird for me.

"I like dubs!"
well, this is one's obvious, no one likes dubbed stuff, not even movies.

"I watch fansub!"*
*snort* "Fansub" isn't something you can watch, because you're watching an anime... Fansubs are, as the name explain, a certain group of fans that translates and sub anime for other fans. You don't watch fansubs, you may follow or like a fansub, but definitively not WATCH it.

"I like moe!"
I would find this annoying, but not ofensive... and only if someone who doesn't even know what moe means would say it. Otherwise, it's pretty common to like moe... I don't, but 80% of people who watches anime lately does.

#1, as someone said earlier, is picking a fight with anyone, not just anime fans. And it's not offensive, it's annoying, especially when they keep saying it after everything you say.

So... people that are OFFENDED by this, grow up. Maybe you're offended because you take things too seriously, or you just started watching anime and you're super excited about it!

Anyway, either this is an elite society or not I wouldn't know... I like anime, but saying it to every ******* person I meet in life is just stupid, and taking pride about this is, too. It's a hobby people, no one's gonna make a life out of watching anime and liking moe.

Something about the word "otaku" just feels weird in your mouth.

Hmm...

5.”I’m an Otaku!”

Hmm... I kinda find that true, but then given my impression of it as a guy term, I usually prefer anime fan. I wrote about my opinions of it several years ago.

4.”I like dubs!”

Ugh.. how can you stand that? Have you heard how bad Tamaki was in Ouran dubbed? Many of the American vocie actors I don't know much about... but yeah I really don't like to watch dubbed.

3. “I watch fansubs!”

Sure..>_<

2. “I like moe!”

To each their own. I like my own brand of fandoms.

1.”I disagree with your opinion.”

Probably.. but then I would either not talk to you, or talk about another thing.

How dare you say that? I will now camp out in your comments section for weeks and fail to intelligently articulate my cause, while disagreeing with you vehemently.

Also, I will flame you and call you names, while referring to you as "unprofessional" if you do the same in reply, because I am too enamored of my views to grasp the silliness of a double standard.

So what's his take on this if he doesn't feel the same way? If I may, say a few things about each number ...

#5
I might get annoyed for the reason given "It's got a negative connotation in Japan" but everyone and their grandma will call themselves one after watching a few shows. It's vexing to hear people rant about it, but you really have to question if they're actually "obsessed" or going through a phase. I'm sure I'm not the only one who feels this way.

hint:Normally, it's douchebag teens that wander around labeling themselves otaku

#4
The crowd who normally throws a bitch-fit at this statement is normally the crowd who also calls themselves otaku after watching 5 or 6 shows. They get pretty convinced that everyone else who isn't watching it in "ORIGINAL FORMAT JAP DUB" is a friggin' poser.
And in the case that there is a seasoned person out there who cares enough to yell at people for watching dubs...I say "so what" We know english dub quality matters from show to show anyway.

#3
I don't get it. This where I got confused...I'm pretty sure every anime fan watches fan subs at one point or another.

#2
lol. All I can think of is "Great." Someone who's upfront about it rather than dicking around the bush and denying it is alot worse than a straightforward person.

#1
I stand by what I said originally

I find this article to be highly offensive. I have called myself an Otaku many times over the years, and I am quite proud of it. I started out watching dubbed anime on TV. I've just started watching fansubs, too, and I enjoy it! I do admit I'm not /that/ into moe, though I love K-On and I'm sure others that can be classified as 'moe' that I don't know are moe. And of course, I obviously disagree with your opinions listed above.

Now with all of that said, you can find people that spout the very things you have listed above in the #fredrin channel on Justin.TV. So don't mind me, I'm just picking on you and the people that actually approve of the opinions you listed above. I know you're not one of them, which is why you're posting this. I have heard you many times in your podcasts and read on your Twitter that you're an Otaku, like moe, enjoy fansubs, like dubs, and disagree with people's opinions. Actually, I'm a little unsure about the last two. :>P

Man, the only thing that sets me off on this list is #5. What's the big deal if someone "likes dubs" or "watches fansubs"? Maybe I'm not hardcore enough, dawg.

Also #1 is just a one-way ticket to fighting with anyone, anime fan or otherwise :S

I'm a bit irritated at the fact the subs won't work for me, even when I go to the list and turn them on! Other than my little bug, I'm still glad this came out! :D

nice to know he left that anime site, i was offended by his review of one of my favourite anime... no one of my favourtie films ever tekkonkinkreet. Ok i have not heard of or read the manga prior to experiencing the movie but i loved the film, but i understand that the music or film style may not be every one's taste but as a reviewer he fails to appreciate the product before he applies personal preference.

I think things like notes at the top of the screen, and translations of signs and notes or whatever in fansubs are actually helpful in the sense that it elaborates a lot on what characters are talking about. I don't find it distracting. There's quite a few anime that have a lot of Japanese pop culture references and inside jokes that, if left un-translated, wouldn't make sense in English (perfect examples are Gintama and Bleach). And the fact that they (the fansubbers) note things like this, it can result in the show you're watching being funnier and also teach you a bit about Japanese culture. But, then again I guess that only matters to hardcore anime watchers and not really the general population.

I am the bone of my sword
Steel is my body, Fire is my blood
I have created over a thousand blades
Unknown to life, nor known to death
Have withstood pain to create many weapons
Yet those hands will never hold anything
So as I pray, Unlimited Blade Works!

Unlimited Blade Works is how I roll. How will my mad lack of skills fair against a Bullet Hell game? We shall see if I win.

Still it is nice to see companies like Rockin’ Android taking an interest in importing cool games from the Japanese doujin gaming scene.
